April Giveaway: Free-day the 13th!
I have been doing pre-planned quilts such as Quilt Block of the Month to hone my skills but I am now breaking out and trying to do more of my own thing.
I like the option of doing both! There are times when I see a pre-made kit and it fits perfectly with what I want to make! There are other times when I see it a little differently and want to make up my own. So, I’m grateful for the choice!
I like premade quilt kits!
I love both. I like the convenience of kits already put together because it saves time and I have more time for sewing. I love to put together my own at times for the adventure it provides. And by the way I LOVE CANDY!!!
Pre packaged! Please!! 🙂
I love to make my own quilt “kits”, but sometimes I like the American Quilting kits too! It just depends on my mood (lazy or not)
Thanks….
I perfer to pre-packaged quilt kits.
I like BOTH! Sometimes I see a quilt in certain fabrics and fall in love-so a kit would be perfect. However, most times I prefer to get the pattern and then choose my own fabrics.
I like both, but I like scrappy so I tend to make my own.
I usually will buy a kit as to doing my own just because the hardest part is done for me. Although I do like to make up my own once in a while if there is a line that I love.
I love them both, BUT it is so, so nice to have a lpre-packaged quilt kit. You all pick beautiful coordinating fabrics!
Actually, I prefer both! It depends on what I am going for, sometimes I love the kit because I can get exactly the same fabrics as the sample, but sometimes I like being creative and changing things up a bit so they match my decor or personality. So buying what catches your eye or using what you have in your stash works well for this. Smiles….
I usually prefer to pick my own fabric.
I love the pre-packaged quilt kits, but sometimes I have enough fabric in my “stash” to make up my own! Does that count as an answer? I love American Quilting!!
I almost always make my own unless I really like the fabric.
I have done a little of both. I am new to the whole process, and appreciate the help with a kit. But I am getting a little more confident to do it myself. Thank you for a great store and wonderful classes. I wish I could take more classes, but I work all day.
Prefer pre-packaged, thanks.
I love the idea of prepackaged kits, but in the end I always like creating something that is all my own.
Oh—–love those patterns, would like that book, thanks for the chance.
I love buying quilt kits. I love how everything is all ready to go…the sooner I get to sew!!!
HELLO! I LOVE BOTH! I DO USE A KIT SOMETIMES,BUT WITH A SPECIFIC TYPE OF QUILT OR WHEN CERTAIN COLORS ARE NEEDED,I WILL CHOOSE MY OWN FABRICS! A QUILT KIT MAKES A BEAUTIFUL GIFT.
THANKS FOR SHARING!
It depends. If I’m in a hurry, it is nice to have a pre-packaged kit. Or if it some kind of quilt I’m not familiar with. But sometimes (often) I switch the fabrics. Having kits just make the decision making easier.
Tough one. I love the convenience of the kits because I hate cutting, and your kits are always cut so exactly. But, I do like picking out my own fabrics too. I guess make my own.
Since I am a “newbie” to quilting, at this point I prefer prepackaged kits.
I like prepackaged kits better because you know exactly how it’s going to end up looking.
It depends on the time of year. During the school year I love kits. During the summer I sew my own projects.
I prefer pre-packaged quilt kits. easy for me.
I enjoy the quilt kits. I have a torn rotator cuff shoulder and the precut items are very helpful to me.
I like to make my own. I have only purchased 2 precut kits.
Unless there is something specific I want to do for someone special, I prefer packaged quilt kits. I always have a hard time picking out colors and fabrics – so that everything not only goes together nicely but so that there is a nice variety in the quilt.
I don’t know which I like the best. I’m fairly new to quilting, and like the precuts because they are so quick and easy, and there are so many patterns available of what you can do with the different sizes. But if I fall in love with a fabric that I just have to have, and I don’t know what I want to do with it, then I like to buy it by the yard so that I know I will have enough to do whatever I might dream up. Heaven forbid I run out of material, and who doesn’t need to build their stash?
I like pre-packaged quilt kits. I like that someone else has done all the work.
I always think I want o do my own but the kits I have bought have made my life easy and made some of my favorite quilts!
Because I have a harder time with so many fabrics to choose from, I typically prefer pre-packaged kits. Unless I have LOTS of time to look.
I like to make up my own.
I prefer making my own quilt designs. However, I often buy charm packs to get the fabric variety without having to buy 42 different fabrics. I’ve learned to get the backing, border, and background fabrics with the charm packs, though. These fabrics disappear too quickly.
I love kits when I can afford them, but I usually use fabrics from my own stash. And I love charm squares! Thanks for the chance to win.
Make my own. If I buy a kit then I’m usually swapping out fabrics anyway.
I like to make mine own. But I think I would like to try to make something out of candy squares.
Most of the time I prefer to choose my own fabrics for a project. If the quilt is complicated or contains lots of applique then it’s nice to have something pre-packaged. Thanks!
I like to make up my own but with pre-cuts or lines of fabric…I;m terrible at mixing and matching fabrics!
Since I am fabric selecting challenged, I prefer pre-made kits or block of the month where someone else chooses the fabric.
It depends on the quilt, but it does make it much easier if someone has chosen the kit and I just have to buy it.
The Block of the Months I have done with several groups have been great for me to learn different techniques. The same goes for the kits I have bought. But, both ot these have served as an inspiration for designing my own quilts so my answer would be I like both kits and doing my own creations.
Right now I like the kits. But I do like to add to some of them to make them a little bigger to wrap up in.
I prefer to make up my own just so I can bust through my stash–I think it multiplies while I sleep! 🙂
I really prefer pre-packaged quilt kits. I love the fact that I won’t have a tone of fabric left over, and also that I know just exactly what the finished product will look like.
I really am split on this question. I love creating my own but often I feel completely overwhelmed but the selection of fabric so I love just picking up a kit and not having to think about it.
I love the prepackaged kits…that way I can see the finished quilt:) I would love to be brave enough to choose my own fabrics. It is slowly but surely coming…
I don’t think that I have ever bought a quilt kit. I really like to pick our my own fabrics. I think that is half the fun.
I have enjoyed the block of the month classes where the fabrics are already picked. However I am starting to do some on my own and have found it is harder than I thought to pick the right fabrics. I will keep using kits at times and my own ideas for others. I love the cute candy squares because I enjoy making small quilts so I can learn to do more types of quilt blocks and new techniques on a small scale. Thanks for all your help and fun classes.
I don’t buy the kits. I like to pick out my own material. Usually change the pattern a little too.
That is a hard question. It is fun to make your own kits, so your quilt is different from others. But a lot of the fun is stand around looking at all the fabric color and textures and feeling and touching the fabric. But if you are in a hurry a kit sure make things go faster. So I would have to say it is a toss up.
I love pre-packaged quilt kits because you ladies can really pick fabric that go together. Haven’t seen any that I don’t love. You save me a lot of time by putting the right fabrics together. Thank you…..
I love the kits you make up, I haven’t seen one I didn’t love yet!!! Keep making them please! You really know how to put colors together.
I love the pre-packaged quilt kits. I can complete a quilt faster. I just wish there were more kits available! My daughter wants to make a boyfriend quilt – but there are only baby boyfriend quilt kits made up – maybe we have just come when you were out of the larger kits. We will try again. Thanks for all the great ideas your store offers.
The more I learn from the kits, the more brave I get at doing my own thing, BUT I really appreciate a kit when there are many fabrics and buying small cuts of each one is kind of daunting. Having it all packaged up is so nice and gets me on my way to the sewing machine.
I do like charm squares and other pre-cuts. I don’t tend to like whole quilt kits, though, even though I can’t always create the effect I want. I like to learn from the process.
I love to make my own stuff up, getting inspiration from quilts or kits I see, but wanting to make it my own.
For me, it isn’t one or the other. I use prepackaged plus I also buy fabrics and combine my own quilts. I also Love Amy’s BOM quilts, in fact I have participated in all 2nd Saturday ones except the 1st one!
